What I’m going to give thanks for tomorrow:
-I had a solid, grounded family growing up, who still keep me sane and laughing, even when they drive me insane. Even had I gotten a chance to pick my parents and my brother, I could not have chosen better. (Don’t tell them, though, I’d hate for any of them to get a big head)
-I have an amazing fiancé who has put up with my stress puppy ways over the last month with a minimum of hassle. He’s probably secretly marking off the calendar until I regain normality (or my variation thereof)
-I have a wonderful future mother-in-law, someone I enjoy talking to, and hanging out with. So many friends/family have difficult family situations when it comes to in-laws, so I can doubly appreciate how lucky I’ve gotten.
-Fred the wonderdog. I got up last night around 2AM because I was thirsty. While I was sitting on the sofa with my drink, Fred came stumbling groggily down the stairs so he could curl up at my feet. I have no doubt that he would defend me to the death if he thought I was threatened (hopefully we’ll never find out), but he’s always been gentle with people that aren’t threats. Who could ask for more than such loyalty and love? I have a lot to learn from him.
-I have awesome friends, who are good to me despite my quirks, keep me entertained, listen to me complain when I really have no just cause, and who genuinely seem to share in my happiness right now. Over the years, when I’ve switched cities, my friends have been the support network that have gotten me through some tough times when my family was hundreds of miles away. They have the couches that I sleep on in a lot of the cities in the country. (We’re a far-flung lot, these days, although I'd appreciate if someone would move to Seattle. I've never been there.) I’d do anything for them, probably including drive the white bronco while they tell me that they’re innocent. (Although I’d appreciate it, guys, if you wouldn’t test me on that one)
-Despite little things here and there, Chris and I are essentially healthy, and while we’re not Bill Gates and family, we want for nothing important. (Ok, the Porsche at Exoticars caught our eyes, but really, nothing)
-We’re just slightly over 2 weeks until the wedding when a lot of the people in this list will come together in St Louis. Despite my current stress, I’m so excited to see everyone. The final countdown is on!
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!
Cheryl
