So two interesting links to add to the stack.
The first was forwarded by Sean, and it's absolutely perfect. I ended digging back in the archives and reading a few of this woman's articles about her upcoming wedding. While I've been blessed with far more generous friends and family than she has, I can totally identify with the feelings!

The second is one that's been around the internet. What makes it odd is that our company has always been scrupulously apolitical. No fund raising, no donations, no rah rahs for any candidate, nothing. There have been two pictures hanging in the lobby of our building. The first is of GW Bush and Laura Bush standing over a soldier's bed. The second is GW running with a soldier who's an amputee. I finally went over and read the little tag under the pictures today at lunch. It turns out that Staff Sergeant McNaughton works for my company in the Louisiana Engineering Services group. It's funny how even the most tenuous bond engenders an "Oh wow, I know him!" response. I remember when they were collecting money for him and for his family while he was at Walter Reed Hospital. So it's kind of cool to see the pieces of the puzzle come together. And even though I've never met the man, just makes me hope even more for the best for him.

The march towards invitation completion continues! Last night I finished 10 more invitations and addressed 14 more. I'm getting to the point of needing to buy more stamps. I'm torn between thinking this whole invitation thing is a secret plot to bolster the Post Office's flagging sales, and believing that this was a clever way for parents to make sure that their children started life together with all of the important names and addresses in their address book. Regardless, as long as I keep moving forward, I'm happy. We have no plans for the evening so hopefully I can knock out quite a few of these tonight.

Freddy's limp has become more pronounced. It looks like a call to the vet is in order for the day. Cross your fingers that it's nothing major!

Last night my study group completed chapter 10 of my CPIM book. That is the last chapter prior to my first (of five) certification test. At first I was all gung ho, thinking that I would try to do the test next week, but then sanity set in. I realized that trying to study for that test while trying to complete my invitations would probably lead to bad things. So I'll wait until the following week, and see if after all of this time, I even remember how to take a test. But hey, life is no fun without a challenge!

First…a non-wedding related confession. I need to start with a little explanation. As it’s election season, and there are state and federal senate seats up for grabs as well as the presidency, there are a lot of yard signs out touting the various candidates. My neighbor has one in her yard/my yard. (It’s a duplex. We share a front yard) It’s not for a candidate I would support, but it’s totally her prerogative to have it there. The next thing you need to know, to exonerate me by the end of this story, is that Fred got up this morning not putting any weight on his right rear leg. I’m not sure if he pulled something yesterday, or stubbed his toe or what. He tends to be a drama queen when anything remotely hurts. That makes it difficult to find out what’s real and what’s drama. Anyway, I ran my hands up and down his leg to see if anything felt out of place, or if he was going to jump when I hit a tender spot. After a few minutes, I didn’t find anything, and he was walking around and putting weight on the suspect leg. But when I took him out for his constitutional this morning at 6AM, I kept watching his walk to see if he was showing any stiffness. I wasn’t really paying attention to anything else. And that’s when Fred made his political statement by lifting his leg on my neighbor’s sign. Apparently he doesn’t support that candidate either.

I’m marrying the best guy in the world. Yesterday was my second swim session, and I came home pretty freaking tired. Chris had done his part to pop our dinner into the oven, and then started working on folding the map/hotel info sheets that we’re putting into the invitations. I didn’t have to ask and it was super nice to have some progress on the invitations even though my eyes were crossing and I knew I wasn’t going to get anything done.

We’ve been talking about songs to play at the reception. For when we come into the reception hall, we’ve been kicking around the song “Beautiful Day” by U2 (“It’s a beautiful day, don’t let it slip away”). But of course that led to discussion of another U2 option – “With or Without You” (“My hands are tired, My body bruised, she’s got me with nothing to win and nothing left to lose.” “With or Without You, With or Without You, I can’t live, With or Without You”). Chris found the ultimate song that gives a nod to our age difference – Beastie Boys “Booming Granny” (“Yeah, ah yeah, aw yeah This one's dedicated to all the ladies in the front, the back, All my older ladies out there, lookin nice, you know who you are Whew!”) I think a conga line led by our midriff baring mothers would be a nice added touch. What do you think ladies? Maybe a navel ring and tattoos to add a bit of panache to the proceedings? But my friend Kathy may have a definite idea for a last song of the night – Bicycle Race by Queen. (“I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my, Bicycle races are coming your way, So forget all your duties oh yeah!)

Hooooly mackerel. I was pretty happy because Chris and I completely finished 20 invitations this weekend - that's stuffed, stamped and ready to go. Then I realized that the big invites go out...next week. Eeks! 20 down, 94 to go. And once again this week is busy with swimming, movie night, and study group. But on the plus side, they don't need to hit the mailbox until the middle of next week. So I have a little wiggle room. Just a little though. Then I looked at the knot to see what the next big items are...and realized it's only 68 days until wedded bliss. The good news is - I'm not at all worried about being married. I'm marrying the right man, and I'm ready for happily ever after. Now as for the rest of it, There must be 1000 things I'm worried about.
I'm going to misspell someone's name on the invitations ("Dear Tammy, please be my bridesmaid. Love Sharrill")
I'm going to forget to invite someone ("Mom! What do you mean you didn't know you were invited?")
I'll forget to fill some vital role in the marriage (Scene: St Cecilia's. Time: 11AM Dec 11. Cough, cough. "Um, is anyone here a priest or deacon or a jp or?")
I won't tip the right people, and they'll turn up at Mom & Dad's house carrying torches, tar, and feathers
I won't get thank you notes out and my relatives will hate me forever. (Scene: Bellrose family reunion. "See that woman over there? Don't talk to her, she doesn't send thank you cards!")
and of course let's not forgot the classic
I'll trip going down the aisle, and give myself a shiner for all of the wedding pix.

Panicked? Who's panicked?

Ah, finally, a big step forward for the invitations. Yesterday Chris and I sat down and got 20 invitations complete. or as I like to think of it, 17.24% complete. (I just threw that in to annoy Chris with the whole math thing). I have about half addressed, which makes me feel...ok.... Tonight and tomorrow are hectic for both Chris and I, but hopefully we can complete a few more. And then Wednesday my goal is another 20. Big push, big push, it's getting really close to mailing time! And then, woohooo! Another MAJOR step will be done.
