My friend Brad and I were discussing bad "first dance" songs. His suggestions:
“Happy for the Rest of Your Life” (I believe that’s the title)
Lyric: “If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, never make a pretty woman your wife, so from my personal point of view, get an ugly girl to marry you"
“Love the one you’re with”
Lyric: “If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one your with.”
“Runaround Sue” Dion and the Belmonts
“The Wanderer” Dion and the Belmonts
“Back off Bitch” by Guns and Roses. OK. Anything else done by Guns and Roses
“Fat Bottom Girls” by Queen
“Love Stinks” by J. Geils Band
“I Will Survive” This one shows up at most weddings. Not to bash men, but look at the way women run to the dance floor for this song.
“End of the Innocence” by Don Henley
“2 Out of 3 Ain’t Bad” by Meatloaf
Lyric: “I want, you, I need you, but there ain’t no way I’m ever gonna love you, now don’t be sad, ‘cause 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.”
“Paradise by the Dashboard Lights” by Meatloaf
Lyric: “And now I’m prayin’ for the end of time to hurry up and arrive, ‘cause if I have to spend another minute with you I don’t think I can merely survive.”
“I’ll Try (To Love only You)” by Alan Jackson Try, TRY! Mister, you damn well better!
“Kiss” by Prince. Any song that begins, “You don’t have to be beautiful to turn me on… I just need your body”
to which I've added:
Queen: "Fat Bottom Girls"
and
MC Hammer: "Can't Touch this"
I also sort of suspect ANYTHING by Meatloaf should be right out - that's a bitter man! And a good case can be made for banning the Beastie Boys from first dance family history.
Feel free to leave a comment if you have some other suggestions!
I have a dress. It's official. It's sitting in the car, probably getting crumpled, but the heck with it, I own a wedding dress, and I'm marrying an awesome guy.
Hang on while I sit down and contemplate that little twist of life.
WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Holy mackerel, Tammie just sent me the 10 day forecast...which covers the wedding. Yet another reminder that we're getting REALLY close! The good news, is that if the forecast holds, the prediction is a high of 46 degrees, and mostly sunny. So pray, cross your fingers, whatever, that we get that weather, that would be fabulous by St Louis in December standards!
The typical blog apology – I’m so sorry I haven’t written! Come to think of it, I seem to be saying that a lot to people of late. Sorry I haven't written an email, sorry I haven't sent a snail mail, sorry I can't remember my own name...
Anyway, there’s been a lot ground covered in the last week. Both physically and towards completing the task list of things to do prior to the wedding. Last Wednesday Chris, Fred, & I drove to Bowling Green. We spent the night there with Becky, and then I went on to spend Thanksgiving in St Louis with my parents. A nice, relaxing weekend, right? RIGHT?
Mwah-ha-ha-ha-haaaaaa. WRONG, grasshopper. I got to St Louis at about 11AM, and by noon both of my parents suggested a nap for me. I must have been babbling. Anyway, set the alarm for 1 PM. Turned it off and thought I’d catch a few more minutes of sleep. At 2:30 Mom came in and woke me up so I could be ready when the relatives got there at 3:00. It was great to get the sleep when I could, the rest of the weekend was really busy. It was fun to see my cousins again, and my aunt brought the veil. We wrapped the party at around 10:30. Friday was non-stop from the gun. We did some Christmas shopping, met with Ralph, who will be the Master of Ceremonies for the wedding ceremony (You didn’t know we had those? Think of it as a wedding coordinator for this particular case) and went over the readings and the music. I also made half of the favors, and found out I needed more jelly beans. I ordered more jelly beans, and helped Dad set up the Christmas tree. We finalized the wedding program. The next day was Christmas shopping, and more decorating. Then Sunday I was up at 6:30AM to hit the road to meet Chris & his Mom at Bristol’s in Louisville. Fred seemed out of sorts, I think he’s mad at me for deserting him for so long. Poor Freddy. Monday was paperwork on the car and then I headed off to Raleigh for a business trip. I got back from that around 11:30 PM Tuesday night, with my loyal dog greeting me groggily at the door. I should memorize that look, I’m sure I’ll be using it on teenagers one day. Wednesday I had an early dental appointment, which involved nasty fillings and things done to gums. The novocaine didn’t wear off until 2:30 PM. Wednesday was torture day really. I got my hair done Wednesday PM by a very talented woman who still can’t seem to figure out that there are NERVES at the root ends. Oh and brow waxing just to complete the day. I picked up Baker from Erin who’s headed to Furman to interview for a job there. I like sitting Baker, he’s such a sweet, happy dog, and he keeps Freddy from getting moody and pouty. I suspect by the time Erin gets back, we’ll be the proud parents of two VERY tired pooches. The other good news from Wednesday (besides it’s being over) was that my wedding band is in. Hooray! Dad made copies of, and folded 158 programs, and Mom finished up the favors, which is a nice step towards completion.
Tonight, it’s pick up my dress. I can’t wait! Nothing makes the wedding feel more imminent than knowing I actually will have the dress in my possession TONIGHT.

Quick update as I'm about to run out the door for my business trip to Raleigh. Anyway, Thanksgiving was great, got lots of stuff done, including half of the favors (more jelly beans are on order!), finished up the work on the program, talked with Ralph (our Master of Ceremonies for the wedding service), got some of the Thank You gifts (so much more to buy!) and got my veil from my Aunt. Anyway, I missed my boys who were visiting Becky, but it's probably good that they didn't have to deal with the whirl of wedding and Christmas work that went on Friday & Saturday. We were a little worried about Freddy yesterday on the drive home, but I've decided that he was just tired and out of sorts from all of the changes to his schedule, the "pack" being separated, etc. He probably won't be too thrilled the next day and a half, but then he has Wednesday to recover and Thursday his friend Baker comes to visit for a few days.
Hope all is well, more chat Wednesday!
